Due to the heavy rains and scheduling issues with the inspectors (and the weekend), not much has happened since Thursday, but they were back at it today.
They unloaded the truck full of cinder blocks into the pit and set the corners of the walls. The inspector was out today to check the work - called a "wall check" - to make sure that we were building on the same lines as in the plan. Seems kinda pointless in this application. If we went any farther out, we wouldn't be able to get to the back yard.
Tomorrow is going to be a big day. They have the basic outline laid out, so tomorrow will be just building up blocks and parging the outside surface.
You can see the blocks that they laid down in the corners of the wall and, on the right, the base of the window well for the basement bedroom.
Three sizes of blocks - the standard ones, flat noes and big almost-square ones.
Big storms predicted tonight, so they put down sheeting in the path down to the pit. If it rains like it did on Thursday, it is going to be another big mesh.
Another view of more blocks. I never said that EVERYTHING about this blog was going to be exciting.
Since we were unable to find all of the windows we needed at the auction (not that we could have put any more in the truck than we did find), I had to stop at Home Depot tonight after work to grab a few that the masons will need tomorrow. With the weather, hard to schedule inspectors and other issues, I am working very hard not to be the one that slows things down.
These are pretty nice windows, but the size and application - and the fact that they are vinyl - kept the cost down. 200 bucks for the three of them.
These are going in the basement, just above the ground. The taller one is the one that is going over the toilet in the bathroom. It needed to be narrower than the others, but Home Depot only made a narrower window in a taller unit (by three inches), so hopefully it will work.
Someone was VERY happy that the crew was making progress again.
Tomorrow, I will hopefully be able to show off our new basement walls. Fingers crossed on the weather holding out...
