That little Bobcat is an amazingly little machine. They pretty much removed the entire patio in a day. Or as Abby put it - "tractor big mesh". A big mesh, indeed. Though she had no idea how big it would be.
They brought in gravel and created a construction entrance (you can see it in the background near the alley) and jackhammered out a lot of the patio deck near the fence line.
But then it started to POUR rain. The plans didn't include a swimming pool, but that is pretty much what we got.
This all made quite a mess and quite a fascinating watching-out-the-window opportunity for Abby as well as the cat and dog.
Safety first!
This worried me (and the guys doing the digging) because I had visions of a soaked basement in my head. The water sealing technology of 1938 seemed to hold up, though. I haven't seen any indication that it leaked in.
You can see what's left of the metal railing and patio concrete.
A view from the now railing-less patio. They nailed a few boards up in front of the door to make it quite clear that no one should go out there.
