We have really lucked out on the weather [knocks on wood], so the digging for the basement and footings has gone very quickly. Today, the crew dug all of the additional depth footings for the basement slab. This must have been very hard work because this soil is already a lot like concrete.
This is the side of the house where the entrance to the basement suite will be. The plans call for a stairway that runs up the side of the house terminating right at the edge of the existing house.
Here is the other side of the existing house. The footing looks like it will run into the existing foundation.
Here is a closer view of the corner of the foundation. You can see the existing brick and the parging. The wall to the right will stay for the most part and an additional wall will be built on top of it that will eventually hold the drywall for the basement suite. I realize it is difficult to visualize. I will se if I can get a floor plan for the basement posted.
The only parts that don't seem to have a footing trench are the wall along the existing basement and the ramp that they still need for the bobcat.
Tomorrow is the city inspector for the footings and Friday will be the inspection of the walls. I supose that menas that they will have the basement walls in by then? That seems like a lot of work for a couple of days, but I'm not complaining.
Now for the picture of Abby.
Does the area subtended by the footings seem as big (or bigger) in real life than it looked on paper?

Smaller actually, but it is so hard to judge the sizes now.
