Day 4 - Trees gotta go!

We had to wait for an inspector from the city to come out and approve everything that they had set up to start digging in earnest, so they took the day to take out some trees. One was wild cherry that would be hanging dangerously over the new addition that really needed to go.

The other tree was less business and more personal. The guys were charging pretty reasonable rates per tree and gave us a multi-tree discount, so we took the opportunity to exact revenge on the holly near the garage as well. We really always did hate that tree. From the crowding of all of the trees that we like, to the year-round dropping of thorny leaves that can poke you through leather gloves, we had it in for that thing since we moved in.

Here is a clear view of the water that is still there from yesterday's storm. I guess the soil could be considered fairly clay-rich. That might explain the lack of leaks in the basement, so I won't complain, but it sure is taking a while to absorb yesterday's down pour.

Our yard is a lot more compressed these days.

The scene of the crime. No more holly, but hello sunshine!

Another view. This will really open up the back yard near the garage to some light, which will be nice with the addition taking up some of the real estate back there.

They need to get a bigger truck than they had today to start hauling the remains of the tree away.

Tomorrow, it is off to the building materials auction! I am picking Erik (friend/architect) at 7AM to get a jump on the competition.

  1. I've often quoted a tag line from a long-ago speech that "success in life goes to those who best execute Plan B." But evidently success sometimes goes to those who best execute Plan J!
