It has been only a week since this whole project began in earnest (so, 1 year + 1 week, I guess) and we are really moving along.
This photo was taken on day 7 - Monday the 9th. The crew gets here about 7:15 and gets right to work.
Here are the windows that Erik and I bought neatly stacked in the garage.
We turned half of the garage into a storage facility for the duration of the project. Everything that doesn't need to go with us to the apartment goes here.
Another view of about two thirds of the family's possesions.
More work done today with the removal of the rest of the back patio and a lot more earth removed.
The hole is now about 8 feet deep and has completely exposed the foundation. You are seeing something that hasn't seen the light of day since 1938.
The retaining wall is early completely removed.
A view back up the pit ramp.
The handrail to the back patio.
This is the view of the pit from the stump of the now removed cherry. I figured that this would be a great repeatable shot location to track the progress of the project.
This is all that is left along the fence line.

Here is the entrance to the basement. Once down a flight of stairs, it now opens directly into the pit.

Juan and the rest of the crew spent some time today loosening the dirt along the walls of the pit, making it a lot easier to remove, so the bulk of the remaining material will most likely be gone tomorrow by the time I get home.
Hyo siad that Juan is aiming to have the footings in place by Thursday or Friday, which would be amazing considering how much work there was to do to get to that point. I hope he's right. Tomorrow should tell us a lot about how realistic that goal is.
